Washington: Nokia’s flagship smartphone Nokia Lumia 930 makes its official debut as Nokia Lumia Icon with new Windows Phone 8.1.
Essentially a global version of the much-touted Nokia Lumia Icon, which is available only in the U.S. as an exclusive to Verizon Wireless, the new Nokia Lumia 930 comes as a high-end smartphone worthy of the flagship title. The handset boasts top-notch specs and features and brings some neat functionality for Windows Phone fans, launching as “the best of Microsoft and Lumia.”
In terms of specifications, the new Nokia Lumia 930 sports a 5-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch (ppi). The display boasts Gorilla Glass 3 protection, as well as Synaptics technology that makes it ultra-sensitive, allowing users to operate it even while wearing gloves.
Under the hood, the Nokia Lumia 930 packs a powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2GHz, along with 2GB of RAM for a smooth and responsive performance. The smartphone comes with 32GB of internal storage capacity and features a 2,420 mAh battery that should provide up to 15.5 hours of talk time and up to 18 days of standby.
One of the main attractions of the Nokia Lumia 930, meanwhile, lies in the camera department. The handset boasts a 20-megapixel rear camera with PureView technology, Carl Zeiss lens, optical image stabilization (OIS), and dual LED flashes, among other things. The smartphone can also record video in up to 1080p at 30fps and will use four microphones to capture audio during the recording.
On the software side, the smartphone runs the brand new Windows Phone 8.1, which brings several neat features and enhancements and finally introduces Cortana, Microsoft’s digital assistant and answer to Siri and Google Now.
“The Nokia Lumia 930 beautifully blends the best of Microsoft and Lumia with a collection of features readymade for the needs of today’s forward-thinking smartphone owner,” Nokia touts in a company blog post announcing its new flagship smartphone.
“What’s more amazing but also expected from the revolutionary Nokia Lumia range of smartphones is how all of this remarkable next-generation technology is wrapped up in an aesthetic package with just as much innovation and design excellence,” Nokia further highlights.
“Standing apart from all that dare to get close, the Nokia Lumia 930 blends the striking good looks of recent Lumia devices with an elegant and unique design all of its own’ gorgeous aluminum frame, metallic accents, and a nicely curved polycarbonate back with vibrant colour choices of bright orange, bright green, black and white.”
The Nokia Lumia 930 will cost $599 without a contract and will first launch in Europe starting in May, with Asia and other markets set to follow later on.
