THARPARKAR: Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah told media the famine in Thar will not prolong as the situation in the area is moving towards betterment.
The veteran Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader claimed that opposition is trying to weaken the provincial government by projecting the Thar famine issue.
Death toll rises to 198
On the other hand, two more children died of malnutrition at a hospital in Mithi, bringing the famine-hit death toll to 198 in three months.
According to hospital sources, two children died at the Mithi hospital today.
Meanwhile, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon said that federal government was yet to release the aid it announced during Prime Minister Nawaz Sharifs’ visit to Thar.
The federal government made tall claims about provision of aid, but nothing was done practically.
“We have not received a single penny from the centre for the drought-hit people of Thar,” he said.
There was a natural calamity in Thar, he said, adding that the Sindh government was not holding anyone responsible.
