KARACHI: Rift between the Pakistan’s federal and provincial authorities emerged over appointment of Inspector General Sindh (IG) causing hampers in ongoing Karachi targeted operation against criminals and terrorists.
The Sindh government has sent names of Fayyaz Leghari and Iqbal Mehmood name for the post after the retirement of outgoing IG Shahid Nadeem Balooch.
On the other hand, federal government is considering Farooq Amir Qureshi and Zulfiqar Cheema for appointment over the post.
Sindh government refused the federal government appointments of the officers, viewing that both the officers belonged to Punjab.
After the rift, however, bureaucracy decided to appoint such a person on the post in few days that no one could point finger on it.
It is pertinent to inform here that Shahid Nadeem Balooch had retired on February 20 of current year as Inspector General Sindh while Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Iqbal Mehmood was given the additional charge of the post till any formal appointment.
