ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s special court has adjourned hearing of a treason case against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf till Friday and said that the ex-president would be indicted on next hearing.
A three-member bench of the special court headed by Justice Faisal Arab resumed the hearing of the case on Tuesday but the former president did not appear before the bench following fresh security warning issued by the interior ministry.
On Monday, the interior ministry revealed in a letter that the former military ruler could be attack like Salman Taseer, the former Punjab governor who was shot dead by his own guard in Islamabad in 2011.
During the hearing, Ahmed Raza Kasuri, Musharraf’s counsel, told the court that his client could not appear before the bench as the country’s interior ministry has issued a serious security warning to him.
The ministry said that banned groups al-Qaeda and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have their sympathizers in Musharraf’s security staff.
Kasuri said that there was need to carry out the security staff’s screening.
The bench accepted Kasuri’s argument and later adjourned the hearing of the case till Friday saying Mushrraf would be indicted on next hearing of the case.
