Washington: As Samsung enjoying the success of Galaxy S5, now new report recons that company is working on an Octa core version of the device.
The South Korean manufacturer unveiled the original Samsung Galaxy S5 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor.
However, a day after the Galaxy S5 announcement, an image on Samsung’s blog indicated that there would be an octa-core version of the Galaxy S5 which will be clocked at 2.1 GHz.
On the same day, Samsung announced its eight-core Exynos 5422 SoC that was clocked at 2.1 GHz. The notion that there is going to be an Exynos 5422 version of the Galaxy S5 is further strengthened today as benchmarks of a Galaxy S5 with model number SM-G900H surfaced on GFXBench 3.0.
This isn’t the first time we’re looking at the SM-G900H model number. Late last month, a set of alleged AnTuTu benchmark tests revealed that there would be two versions of the Galaxy S5. The SM-G900H featured an Exynos eight-core CPU with clocks of 1.5 GHz, ARM Mali-T628 GPU, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and a full-HD screen.
The numbers are identical to the benchmarks seen on GFXBench today, with a few differences. The CPU clock on the GFXBench test is at 1.3 GHz, which is what the four Cortex A7 cores run at. The four Cortex A15 cores on the Exynos 5422 are clocked at 2.1 GHz.
It is likely that the benchmark was run with only the four Cortex A7 core enabled. Or it is possible that Samsung was intentionally throttling the CPU to gauge how it functions at lower frequencies.
Another area of interest as far as the benchmark tests are concerned is the screen size, which is claimed to be 5.2 inches. The Galaxy S5′s screen size is at 5.1 inches. Rumors have indicated that the higher-end model of the Galaxy S5, which will likely be announced in May, will feature a screen size of 5.2 inches.
But that device is said to feature a quad-HD screen, while the device in the benchmarks leaked today features a full-HD screen. It might be that Samsung is testing different combinations for the Exynos-based version of the Galaxy S5. We will be monitoring the issue and inform you as soon as we know more.
