KARACHI: The University of Karachi (UoK) has released its official statement regarding the confusions created after alleged affiliation of the students with an organisation ‘Ashaab’, a sub-ordinate of Al Qaeda network.
The UoK administration stated that it may be clear that the security of the University of Karachi is not so far in the knowledge of the alleged students or any such organisation, according to the press release.
It is reiterated with reference to the statement of Raja Umar Khattab, a senior officer of the police in the CID who has categorically said that “No student or teacher of the University of Karachi has been found involved so far” (daily Dawn, Saturday, February 15, 2014).
The said CID officer has disclosed names of some suspects including a sports teacher of a private university who allegedly heads the ‘technical wing’ of Al Qaida.
After the statement of the CID Officer, there should remain no ambiguity that the persons held as suspects by the law enforcing agencies have no concern with the University of Karachi.
The University of Karachi, despite severe, fragile and highly alarming law and order situation throughout the mega city, manages to keep its students, who are thousands in number and coming from all parts of the city, engaged in academic and co-academic activities throughout the year.
The security, administrative and teaching staff of the University endeavors to keep all its students under strict discipline while they are within the limits of the campus.
It is however a matter of concern that talented youth are being targeted to be exploited for activities creating disorder and terror not only in the city but in the entire country. Being an educational institution, the University of Karachi has always strived to turn the youth into educated and civilized citizens.
The University hopes that the statement of Raja Umar Khattab, the CID officer will remove any doubts that might have developed in the minds of the readers and listeners about the integrity of the University of Karachi as a prestigious institution of higher education.
