ISLAMABAD: For an immediate start of talks with Taliban, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has asked newly constituted committee to initiate dialogue process.
The committee comprising four members was set up by him on Wednesday including media and key social figures.
Nawaz was hopeful while talking with the members committee in the capital city that peace objective will be achieved through dialogue.
He assured committee of the full authorities to have talks with Taliban, who have welcomed the constitution of the committee.
PM also directed Federal Minister Nisar Ali Khan to provide all the related information and resources to four members committee.
Renowned columnist Irfan Siddiqi, tribal figure Major Amir (Retd), former bureaucrat Rustam Shah Mohmand and senior journalist Rahimullah Yousafzai are the members of the committee.
Committee Briefing
Talking with media, the committee members said that they had ‘freehand’ to strike a deal with Taliban.
“We are not a governmental committee, rather a committee formed by the government,” Irfan Siddiqi said in a briefing.
“We have two parties for the talk,” he said without mentioning the names.
“Rustam Shah Mohmand was included in the committee on special request of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.”
Shah is reportedly have soft corner for Taliban who are demanding ‘Shariat’ in the country.
The committee urges Taliban to make measures to ensure dialogue between Pakistan state and them.
