DHAKA: A Bangladeshi Court has handed death sentence to Jamaat e Islami chief Mati ur Rehman Nizami and other 13 in an arms’ smuggling case.
The persons who faced death sentence include former Interior Minister Lutf-uz-Zaman and two chiefs of the country’s secret agencies.
According to reports, the JI’s leader Matiur Rehman Nizami was facing charges for smuggling 10 trucks loaded with weapons via Bangladesh’s port.
It should be mentioned that the Matiur-Rehman Nizami had performed his duties as Minister of Industry in 2004 while having accusation of smuggling 40,930 modern weapons, 27,000+ grenades and 840 rockets, reports said.
