LAHORE: The political rivals grabbed electoral victories in their party-led provinces as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won in PK-50 constituency of Haripur in KPK while Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) got NA-69 of Punjab during by-polls.
By-election was organised in a provincial and national constituencies which were vacated due to ineligibility of ousted candidates over holding fake degrees.
By-polls event in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s constituency PK-50 resulted in a victory for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in Haripur (PK 50), according to unofficial results.
On the other hand, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N)’s candidate declared electoral winner in Khushab’s NA-69 constituency, unofficial results showed.
In NA-69, the contest was between PML-N candidate Aziz Malik and PTI’s Umar Aslam, which the former won by getting 67,312 votes.
Meanwhile, PTI’s Akbar Ayub Khan (PTI) defeated his PML-N opponent Qazi Asad as by receiving 25,790 votes on the event, according to local media reports.
The two seats fell vacant when after 2013 elections, NA-69 winner Sumaira Malik was disqualified by the Supreme Court (SC), she then decided to field her son for today’s by-poll.
Similarly in PK-50, the seat fell vacant after PTI’s elected Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) from the constituency, as earlier Yousaf Ayub Khan was disqualified by an election tribunal in Sept 2013 and subsequently the Supreme Court also upheld his disqualification.
Despite strict security measures, rumors and allegations of rigging came from both parties participating in the elections.
