ISLAMABAD: An amended bill of ‘Rape’ laws in Pakistan has been presented in country’s National Assembly on Sunday suggesting strict punishments for convicts.
The Pakistan People’s Party‘s Senator, Sughra Imam, presented the bill seeking penalties for governmental officials convicted of rape.
Death penalty and life imprisonment are prime suggestions for any official convicted of raping a minor or a women in police stations, hospitals and secretariats in the bill.
Senator Sughra Imam said the amendments are directed towards provision of justice to rape victims as the crime has seen an alarming increase in the country in last two years.
Talking to media, she said “If a rape victim finds enough courage to report the crime in a police station, officials doubt her chastity and try to gain undue advantage out of the situation”
The bill sought prohibitions for disclosing the victim’s name be it a boy, girl or a woman on media.
The Senator said that this bill was the need of the hour because most of the raping culprits are not punished due to their privileged position as due to the absence of filing First Investigation Report (FIR) and faulty investigative techniques.
