SHARJAH: Sri Lankan former skipper Mahela Jayawardene became the first amongst the Islander counterparts to top 11,000 runs in Test cricket.
He reached this hall mark during the second innings of the 3rd test played here at Sharjah against Pakistan.
Playing in his 141st Test match Jayawardene required 13 runs to enter the exclusive club and he did it in style by hitting a Saeed Ajmal delivery over long leg for six.
He is the eighth batsman in Test history to achieve the feat but the first Sri Lankan to do it.
Famous batsmen who achieved the 11000 mark before him are Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Jacques Kallis.
