Islamabad: Deadline of 24 hours given by Supreme Court of Pakistan will be over in few hours as the apex court will resume hearing of missing persons Tuesday (today).
A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Amir Hani Muslim will hear the case.
Attorney General Munir A Malik on Monday informed the court that two of the 35 missing persons have died in custody.
Chief Justice ordered the defence authorities to file a case against those who are responsible for the deaths of two missing persons. The ‘custodial death of two missing persons’ is a clear evidence that all the missing persons are in the army’s custody, he added.
He ordered to present the remaining missing persons before the court on Tuesday by 11 am.
Since the authorities failed to produce any missing person as directed by the apex court in pervious hearing, the bench summoned the Defence Minister, who pleaded for three-day time as he had recently taken charge.
Khawaja Asif said the government was legislating over the issue of missing persons and would present a bill in the National Assembly in a few days. However, the CJP ordered the government to first recover the 33 missing persons and then undertake legislation.
He also directed for conducting autopsy of the dead missing persons.
