Rawalpindi: A Special Corps Commanders Conference has begun under the chairmanship of Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfarq Pervez Kayani one day before his retirement after he completes his extended term in office.
According to ISPR, on the completion of General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani’s tenure, a corps commander’s conference is being held today to pay farewell to him.
Corps Commanders, Principal Staff Officers (PSOs), General Officers Commanding (GOCs) and concerned senior officials attended to bid farewell to General Kayani.
Only Lieutenant General Haroon Aslam, the most senior officer in Pak Army, not attended the conference due to the ignorance by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to appoint him as a new Chief of Army Staff. He also registered his protest by not attending the prime minister’s dinner on Wednesday night.
The report said that the PM ignored him due to his key role as Director of Military Operations on October 12, 1999 alongwith the-then DGMO Major General Shahid Aziz to oust Nawaz Sharif from power. Then, Brigadier Haroon led the team to arrest all the cabinet members, including the then Nawaz.
It is pertinent to mention here that yesterday PM Nawaz Sharif has appointed Lieutenant General Raheel Shairf as new army chief, whereas, Lieutenant General Rashid has been appointed as Chairman Joint Chief of staff Committee.
