Hangu: A US drone strike targeting a Islami Madrassa Muktaba Darul uloom in Tehsil Tal area of Hangu killed at least eight people and injured eight more on Thursday morning.
According to sources, four missiles attacked the Madrassa at around 5 a.m. while the drone continued to hover above the area after the incident..
Those wounded included students of the Madrassa whereas the identities of the deceased could not be ascertained.
Drones continued to hover above the area after the incident, locals reported.
This was the first attack by the US in Pakistan after the last strike conducted on November 1 had killed the then chief of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Hakimullah Mehsud, in North Waziristan tribal region.
It is pertinent to mention here that the attack comes a day after the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz said while briefing the Senate Committee that the US had assured Pakistan of not conducting drone strike during the government’s talk with the Taliban.
