DUBAI: As soon as the tenure of Pakistan Cricket Team coach, Dav Whatmore coming to an end, the battle for coach begins. The names under consideration are Moin Khan, Aqib Javed, Waqar Younis and Mudassir Nazr.
According to sources, Pakistan Board has changed its stance for appointing Waqar Younis as head coach because of his rift with all-rounder Shahid Afridi. In 2011, there were huge differences between the two during West Indies tour of Pakistan.
Allegations were exchanged from both the sides and as a result Afridi had to be removed from captaincy. In the recent tour in the Gulf, the acting Chairman of the Board Najam Sethi appointed Waqar Younis as a candidate for head coach of Pakistan Cricket Team. However, Afridi and team mates had serious reservations over the decisions.
Najam Sethi was also informed over the former captain of Pakistan team. According to sources, Waqar Younis has been rejected seeing the possible outcome of the decision to be made.
Other contenders for coaching include Moin Khan, Aqib Javed and Mudassir Nazr. However, Moin Khan has the least amount of experience among the three.
