LONDON: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday said that he has not assured US President Barack Obama anything pertaining the Dr Shakil Afridi case and said that the fate of the doctor, who helped America’s CIA to kill Osama bin Laden, would be dicided by the courts.
Speaking to media in London, the PM said that the government would respect the court’s ruling over Dr Afridi’s case, adding they will not venture into anything that is above the ‘law of the land’ or extrajudicial.
Sharif visited US last week where he met with US President Obama and other leader of the world’s super power.
He said that he had asked President Obama that the US drone strikes are against Pakistan’s sovereignty, adding that the stikes should be stopped.
He said that as a sovereign country Pakistan reserved the right to take its own “uninfluenced” decisions. “We must exercise this prerogative according to what was in the best interest of Pakistan and not others, ” he said.
Replying to a question he said that the law & order situation was improving in Karachi with every passing day. “Peace will soon prevail in Pakistan’s economic hub”, Sharif said.
