WASHINGTON: Senior American official claims no change of plans for policies of drone strikes on Pakistani soil. At the same time, the official praises Prime Minister Pakistan Nawaz Sharif indeed raising issue of aerial attacks.
The US official said that Nawaz Sharif did raise the issue of Pakistani neuroscientist Aafia Siddiqui, but it was not a part of discussion. She was sent to 86 year imprisonment on allegedly attacking US soldiers in Afghanistan.
One of the officials said, “But there is no discussion on this issue, as it is not an open to discussion”.
The officials stated that US has no objection with Pakistan holding talks with Taliban as it is part for national consensus. In Washington, a special briefing was given to the Pakistani journalists, the officials said that Nawaz Sharif’s visit to the US was a historic one he was mostly busy with things to be discussed.
PM Nawaz Sharif was in series of talks with the US think tank experts, leaders, military officials and lawmakers. The meeting with President of US Barack Obama was of two-hour and after that PM Pakistan flew back to the home country.
The US officials praised the ‘warm and honest’ tone of PM Nawaz Sharif during his talks with American administration in Washington. They wished that such meetings would likely to be continued for the future.
One of the officials said, “The PM raised the drone issue at his public and private meetings (in Washington)”.The PM said Pakistan was talking to TTP and we expressed our support to this position. We understand there’s a political consensus on this issue. We have no objection as long as the Taliban are required to accept the Constitution and the rule of law”.
The officials also said that PM Pakistan was not satisfied with the territory of Afghanistan for stirring up troubles in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan and also named Indian involvement in some meetings. One official said, “Aafia Siddiqui, I don’t believe it was raised, Dr Afridi was raised in several meetings, President Obama and other US officials and lawmakers had urged Mr Sharif to release Dr Afridi”.
