Washington: After HTC One, HTC Evo likely to get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean along with HTC Sense 5 by the end of this year.
The HTC Evo 4G LTE version was launched in April 2012 and released the handset in May 2012. The handset is exclusive to Sprint in the U.S. and it holds the distinction of being the first LTE-enabled smartphone offered by the carrier.
The HTC Evo 4G LTE is pre-loaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) and HTC’s Sense 4.0 user interface. HTC started rolling out a software update for the HTC Evo 4G LTE on Aug. 29, 2012, which brought along several software fixes, Android 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1. On Dec. 13, 2012 the handset also received Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and Sense 4+.
A recent tweet from HTC president Jason Mackenzie confirms that the HTC Evo 4G LTE will soon get the latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update, along with HTC Sense 5.
“EVO LTE to receive android 4.3 and Sense 5 by end of the year,” tweets Mackenzie.
Google launched Android 4.3 Jelly Bean along with the new Nexus 7 in July this year. However, only a handful of Android devices are currently running on the last Jelly Bean flavor.
Mackenzie previously tweeted that the HTC One Developer Edition will get the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean software update and the software was rolled out to various carriers in the U.S. and some international models by end-September.
As the HTC Evo 4G LTE was launched in 2012, many customers who purchased the handset on a two-year contract would still be using the phone. As such, they will be hoping to get a software update on their handset as soon as possible.
The latest Jelly Bean software release and Sense 5 will bring various improvements, new features and bug fixes along with the much-touted BlinkFeed feature to the handset. Mackenzie did not offer a specific timeframe or rollout schedule for the update, but it shouldn’t be too long now.
