LAHORE: The Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has met the Chief Minister of Punjab province, Shahbaz Sharif, on Monday for taking suggestions over appointment matters of military leadership.
Following retirement periods of top military leadership in Pakistan including the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and the Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee (CJCSC), PM Nawaz Sharif held meeting with the CM Punjab today.
The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) belonged political leaders agreed to make appointments on the important posts on basis of merit, sources said.
It should be mentioned that CJCSC General Khalid Shameem Wynne and COAS General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has completed their tenure in armed forces.
Earlier, the Pakistani government had announced the criteria for appointments on top military posts in accordance to seniority basis.
Lieutenant General Haroon Aslam and Lt-Gen Rashad Mahmood are the powerful candidates for filling in the vacant posts following the retirement of CJCSC General Shameem and COAS General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on October 7 and November 28 respectively.
