LAHORE: The Vice Chancellor of Punjab University Dr Mujahid Kamran is likely to be appointed as the next chairman of Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The news has emerged as the PU’s search committee’s meeting is likely in next few days to replace the present VC, who is considered as controversial for his policies for some.
Only one Pakistan university to get place in top 500 universities of the world showing a poor performance of the national universities. HEC is the regulatory authority to monitor the quality of the education, research and administration at the universities; however, it seems that only wordly boasting are done more than the actual programmes.
Earlier, Dr. Shams Lakha has emerged as the strong contender for the post, but strong criticism from the conservative circles about his belonging to Agha Khan community seems to have worked.
