ISLAMABAD: Despite heightening of stress on Line of Control (LoC), Pakistani government has taken an admirable step by releasing 337 Indian fishermen.
Pakistan’s Interior Ministry announced the release of a significant number of Indian prisoners from the district Jail of Malir located in the coastal city of Karachi.
The fishermen had been arrested on the charges of violating Pakistani maritime limits, however, the released prisoners include 340 fishermen and 25 were crew of the vessel, Pakistan’s official said.
Representatives of Pakistan’s interior ministry, foreign ministry, Punjab and Sindh’s home department along with the Indian High Commission will be present on the occasion.
The official said that the Indian prisoners have completed their jail term and would be sent to India through Wagha border on August 24.
Pakistan’s generous step by releasing prisoners has been lauded by the international community.
On another event, President said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif-led government is committed to promote peaceful relations with India as well as wants to establish durable peace and stability in the region.
