LAHORE: All opposition political parties of Punjab have gathered against the provincial government’s decision over holding local bodies election on non-party basis.
The opposition parties announced commencement of protest in the National Assembly while all leaders will organise a meeting to finalise action plan.
All political parties also agreed for opposing the decision in which Punjab government changed the eligibility measures of candidates’ age from 18 year to 25 years.
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan People’s Parties, Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) and Jamaat e Islami (JI) completely rejected the government’s decision and termed it as a controversial move.
Deputy opposition leader and PTI high-up Sibteen Khan said that we will protest against the decision taken by Punjab government in National Assembly while action plan will be finalised in a meeting scheduled on today’s evening.
Deputy parliamentary leader Sardar Shahab Uddin termed the decision against the charter of democracy and said that Nawaz Sharif is devianting from the written agreement made for holding local bodies election on party basis.
Parliamentary leader of Jamaat e Islami Dr Waseem Akhtar urged that Punjab’s local bodies election must be held on party based if government seeking establishment of democracy in the country.
Deputy parliament leader of Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) Sardar Waqas Mokal also rejected holding of the election on non-party basis.
