Karachi: Former Mayor Karachi, Syed Mustafa Kamal says that Karachi currently has undergone a sorry state.
“At present, unfortunately MQM is not in power. In my tenure as mayor, Karachi was able to recover from heavy rain falls,” he said in an interview.
“During my tenure, no project was flop or left incomplete. Thanks to Almighty we finished what we started and have been popular ones. The disaster is due to the current policies of provincial government.”
“Nothing has been done to preserve the infrastructure. If we would have done good job, Karachi would have still been underwater. I have spent less time with Pervez Musharraf and more with Asif Ali Zardari. In the tenure of Zardari funds availability was not easy but we managed because of public presence”.
“We are ready for audit for works done in our tenure. We would highly welcome audit by any foreign institution. Work and corruption can’t go together. We are thankful to Almighty that no corruption took place when we had the charge”.
He added, “During our tenure we installed machinery worth 1.5 billion which has been left to rust. These people work only 9-5 duty hours and can’t be the real representatives because this requires dedication rather than time frame”.
He stated that news about MQM founder Altaf Hussain’s illness is not true. He is in good shape. Also MQM is not involved in money laundering or the distribution of slips. He further said that if people won’t be given opportunities, country might lose its very foundation. MQM and Altaf Hussain are cooperating in murder investigation of Dr. Imran Farooq.
