ISLAMABAD: Most-awaited National Power Policy designed for the elimination of severe energy crisis in Pakistan has been approved by by Council of Common Interest (CCI) on Wednesday.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif approved the National Power Policy in the ongoing CCI meeting for facilitating crisis-hit Pakistani nation.
Approval of coal corridor and hydro-electricty power projects has been included in the policy while electricity stealers will be grasp to offense.
According to the new policy, 7000 mega watts electricity will be added in the energy sector for controlling load shedding menace in Pakistan.
CCI chairman directed to gain capability for increment of 7000 mega watts of electricity during next 3 to 4 years.
The participant of the meeting pressed the construction authorities of Neelum Jhelum hydro-power project to finalised the work till November 2016
CCI members have approved to name the new policy as ‘Power Policy’ while .
Increment in the prices of Combined Natural Gas (CNG) was also considered in the meeting.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired CCI high-level meeting in the federal capital of Pakistan in the presence of officials of four provinces including chief ministers.
Chief ministers of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif‚ CM Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Pervez Khattak‚ Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik and other members of the council attended the meeting.
A committee consisting of members from all provinces submitted their report in recent meeting after thorough inspection of the policy in the light of constitution.
In previous session, PM Sharif directed to finalise National Power Policy after consultation and considering the recommendations of each provinces as some provinces have reservations on some points.
Earlier, Provincial chief secretaries had been ordered by the CCI chairperson to visit their provinces to collect the suggestions and recommendations under which the national policy will be formulated.
