Birmingham: Defending Champions Australia on Wednesday will face New Zealand in a crucial match of International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy at Edgbaston.
Australia already lost its first match against the host England while its opponent emerged victorious against Sri Lanka.
Australia have to win the match to stay in the line of semi-finals. In case of Australia’s defeat New Zealand will cement its place in Semi finals while the defending champion reduce its chances of going further.
According to One Day International (ODI) statistics, Australia dominate the Kiwis with 85 victories in 124 meetings. While Kiwis manage to beat Aussies in 34 matches with five without result.
As far as ICC Champions trophy is concerned Aussies’ past record is good against Kiwis, both teams had met each other 4 times. Australia had dominated the kiwis with 4-0.
The teams are very much similar to each other. Kiwis have been performing well in England. Recently they have beaten England in ODI series just before the Champions Trophy and also won its first match against Sri Lanka.
Kiwis will have the services of in-form batsman Martin Guptill, energetic Kane Williamson, skipper Brendon McCullum experienced Ross Taylor and all-rounder James Franklin. The bowling of kiwis will rely on Tim Southee, Kyle Mills, spinners Daniel Vettori and Nathan McCullum.
Aussies who lost to England will be relying on Skipper Michael Clark, Jorge Bailey, David Warner al-rounder Shane Watson, and Glenn Maxwell. Michell Johnson, James Fuclkner, Shane Watson and Clint Mckay will take the responsibility of bowling.
