KARACHI: At least 11 people have been killed and 40 others including children injured after a blast went off near the election office of Awami National Party (ANP) candidate Bashir Jan in Karachi, a metropolitan of Pakistan.
According to ANP Sindh chapter Chief Shahi Syed, the blast occurred outside the election office of Bashir Jan in Mominabad area of the city.
“Several activists were involved in the political activities at the election office at the time of the attack,” he said adding that Bashir Jan remained unhurt in the attack.
According to SHO Mominabad Police station, the blast occurred at the spot of an election gathering organised by the ANP.
The injured have been shifted to local hospitals in the city. Police and Rangers have cordoned off the area and started investigation.
Meanwhile, Bashir Jan told media that he was unhurt in the attack but damage has been done to his car.
“The car remained in air for seconds after the blast but fortunately I survived the attack,” he said adding that several activists were seen lying on the floor after the blast.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain has condemned the attack.
Meanwhile, the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility of the attack on election office of Awami National Party (ANP) leader Bshir Jan in Karachi, a metropolitan of Pakistan.
Speaking to media from an undisclosed location, the TTP spokesman Ihsanullah Ihsan said that they had carried out the attack on the ANP gathering as they had warned earlier that they would target top three secular parties of the country.
