GENEVA: Pakistan’s disgraced former captain Salman Butt and pacer Mohammad Asif’s appeals against the spot-fixing ban have been rejected by the International Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
Both the players had filed appeals with the CAS against the ban.
The CAS uphold the decision of International Cricket Council (ICC) decision and rejected the appeals of both the players.
The ICC had put 10 years ban on Butt and seven years ban on Asif.
A report quoting Butt’s lawyer said that he was disappointed by the decision of the CAS. “We were fighting the case for Pakistan,” a television quoted the lawyer.
Butt had served seven months of a two-and-a-half year term in a Britain’s prison for involvement in a match-fixing scam that sent shock waves through the world of cricket.
Butt, who has played 33 tests, 78 one-day internationals and 24 Twenty20s for his country, was sentenced for his part in Pakistan bowling deliberate no-balls during a test against England at Lord’s in 2010.
The spot-fixing conspiracy was uncovered after a British newspaper recorded sports agent Mazhar Majeed boasting of how he could arrange for players to rig games for money.
Opening batsman Butt’s team mates Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were also sentenced.
