Multan: The election tribunal from Multan has allowed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Sheikh Waqas Akram to contest elections from Jhang, a constituency in Pakistan’s Punjab province.
Returning Officer rejected Akram’s nominations paper after the media reports and his opponents claimed that he used fake degrees to participate in 2008 elections from Jhang.
On the NA-89 seat, Akram will contest against chief of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamat (ASWJ) Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Ludhianvi.
In the 2008 general elections, Akram, who contested NA-89 on the PML-Quaid’s ticket, emerged victorious after securing 51,733 votes, while Ludhianvi secured 44,894 votes as an independent candidate.
Meanwhile, the tribunal in Rawalpindi has disqualified Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Chaudhry Iftikhar from contesting elections on Rawalpindi constituency (NA-55).
It is to be mentioned here that Awami Muslim League (AML) Leader Sheikh Rasheed is also contesting elections from the seat. He has a support from PTI in the constituency.
Earlier, the returning officer of Rawalpindi approved Iftikhar’s nomination papers but later it was rejected by the tribunal.
