PESHAWAR: For the first time in the democratic history of the Pakistan, women in KPK, north western province of the country have been allowed to poll their votes in elections 2013.
According to the Pakistani media reports, meeting of tribal elders held at Lower Dir area of KPK which finally decided that woman would be allowed to vote in upcoming general elections.
This was decided in the meeting of political and religious parties held at Lower Dir area of the province under the arrangements of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).
Participants of the meeting also demanded that Election commission of Pakistan (ECP) to increase women polling station in Lower Dir District to assure women participation in election 2013.
During the meeting, political parties also agreed on code of conduct for upcoming election.
More than 80 million voters in Pakistan will choose their next democratic government on May 11.
There were earlier reports that woman in KPK and Balchistan would not be allowed to vote in election and that law and order situation in both areas may turn horrifying. Till the date of this report, only one incident of attack on a political really has been reported in Banu district of the KPK.
Meanwhile Peoples Party (PPP) candidate from Karachi’s provincial assembly seat was killed by unknown miscreants in Orangi Town, highly populated lower and middle class area of the city.
