ISLAMABAD: Federation of all Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) and Higher Education Commission have agreed to undertake collaborative efforts for improving of quality of teaching and research in higher education sector of Pakistan.
The newly elected office bearers of FAPUASA met with Chairperson HEC Dr. Javaid R. Laghari and Executive Director Prof. Dr.  Mukhtar Ahmed here at HEC Islamabad. The 50 members’ delegation was led by Dr. Ahsan Sharif President, Jamil Ahmed Chitrali Secretary General, Dr. Waheed Chaudhry Vice President and Prof. Dr. Kalimullah Bareach former President FAPUASA.
The Chairman HEC welcomed the delegation and informed that HEC with its stakeholders would continue its role for the development of country and betterment of the society. He also assured that HEC would stay in touch with FAPUASA and he would himself try to resolve the matters being faced by university faculty.
The executive director HEC said that HEC is trying to resolve the issues being faced by higher education sector in Pakistan.
During the meeting, FAPUASA office bearers showed deep concern over financial crisis being faced by higher education sector of Pakistan. They demanded that at least 4% of GDP should be spent on education and 25% of total allocated budget for education should be spent on higher education.
They were of the view that due to non-timely releases of higher education budget, the employees of public sector universities are not getting their salaries and development projects are being affected.
It was also demanded from the federal government supplementary grant may be approved against the 20% recent increase in salaries for all the employees of public sector universities. In addition, The FAPUASA office bearers have also discussed restoration of 11 terminated faculty members of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Benazir Abad (SBBU,SBA) (Nawabshah Sindh).
The Chairman HEC assured that this issue would be taken up by HEC. They also raised that uniform criteria for the appointment of vice chancellors should be adopted throughout the country and experienced academicians with PhD should be appointed through a transparent and merit based process. No retired person should be appointed on administrative posts.
The officer bearers of FAPUASA extended thanks to the senior management of HEC for taking keen interest in resolving the issues being faced by the faculty of public sector universities.
