A Saudi woman invited her relatives and friends for a big party to celebrate not her marriage but her divorce, saying she was so happy to get rid of a “manipulating” husband.
The 27-year-old woman said she had married the man from her own tribe but had not seen him or known him before, adding that his sisters told her “too many lies about his good behavior.”
The woman, a school teacher in the western region, said that he had not stopped asking about her salary, prompting her to postpone the wedding party despite a marriage contract.
“When I knew him better, I asked for a divorce but he refused and demanded SR100,000…he refused to come to court until I pay him,” she said, quoted by Emirates247.
“We then reached a deal to pay him SR65,000….he then agreed to divorce me…I decided to celebrate this happy occasion and hold a big party.”
