PESHAWAR: Justice (retd) Tariq Pervez Khan took oath as fifth caretaker chief minister of Khyber Pakhtonkhwa (KPK) here on Wednesday.
KPK Governor Engineer Shaukatullah administered the oath to the KPK CM.
The governor dissolved the provincial assembly on Tuesday on an advice sent by Amir Haider Khan Hoti, the chief minister.
Pervez — who had served as the caretaker governor of the KPK when he was the chief justice of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) — has become a fifth caretaker CM of the province.
Earlier on Wednesday (today), a writ petition, citing Article 207 of the Constitution, was also filed against the selection of Pervez as caretaker CM.
Justice Tariq Pervez was born in Peshawar on Feb 15, 1948, and did his graduation in law in 1971 from the University of Peshawar. He was considered a competent lawyer and well-versed in different fields of law, especially criminal jurisprudence.
Justice Tariq Pervez had served as president of PHC Bar Association in 1996. He was appointed as chief justice of the PHC on April 5, 2005, and elevated to the Supreme Court in Oct 2009. He retired from that post on Feb 14 this year.
