New Delhi: Indian Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said on Thursday that the two terrorists killed in Wednesday’s attack in Srinagar seemed to be suicide attackers from Pakistan as items recovered from them appeared to be of Pakistani origin.
Speaking to Lok Sabha, he said the two unidentified terrorists took advantage of a small gap in the fencing at the police public school in Bemina area to enter the compound and opened fire, killing five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.
Six other soldiers and four civilians were also injured in the attack.
The home minister said about 50 CRPF personnel of the 73 Battalion were present at the school for further deployment when the incident occurred, IANS reported.
He said two AK rifles, five magazines, two pistols and four grenades were among the recoveries made from the slain terrorists.
An ointment tube recovered from the slain militants was found to have been manufactured in Karachi, while diaries with phone numbers had also been found.
“It is suspected to be of Pakistani origin,” he said, adding that the attackers were fidayeen (suicide attackers) “suspected to be of foreign origin”.
A Hizbul Mujahideen agent claimed the responsibility but Shinde said that claim was yet to be confirmed.
