Islamabad: Pakistan’s Defence Secretary Asif Yasin Malik has told the National Assembly’s standing committee that the military installations are under threat of terrorists attack and security measures being taken to avert any mishap.
The NA’s standing committee on defence’s special meeting held under the chairmanship of Azra Afzal here in the capital on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Malik, the defence secretary, told the committee that the news regarding US building army compound at Karachi airport was false.
He said that US Army could not be allowed to build compound, adding that investigation into the publishing of a tender in newspapers is being carried out.
He said that military installation were under terror threat. He added that security of the navy and air force’s installation had been given the military commandos.
“Security has been increased on all the airports.”
Speaking to media after the meeting, the secretary said that no political cell existed in the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He said that he had ensured the committee that there would be no role of the ISI or the army in the general election.
However, he said that the army would provide security at sensitive polling stations in the election.
