Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday rejected the petition filed by Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) leader Dr. Tahirul Qadri for the reconstitution of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
In its written order, the three member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry stated that tahirul Qadri had failed to convince the bench over his petition and the intentions behind filing it.
The facts show that the basic rights of the scholar has not been violated. Tahirul Qadri can cast his vote in the elections but he is not eligible to contest elections, the court said.
The court is showing its restrain and not launching any contempt of court proceedings against the the scholar although language used by him during the court proceedings were not appropriate.
Earlier on Wednesday, Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary barred Tahir-ul-Qadri from continuing his argument in a petition pertaining to reconstitution of the Election Commission saying the petitioner is making fun of the judiciary.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by the chief justice resumed the hearing of the petition filed by Qadri.
During today’s hearing, Qadri argued that the bench was asking unrelated question to him from the beginning of the hearing.
The bench expressed anger over Qadri when he showed a picture in which the chief justice was taking oath from former president Pervez Musharraf.
Qadri said that taking oath from Queen was similar to taking oath from Pervez Musharraf.
