Karachi: At least one man was killed and several vehicles torched as a strike is being observed in Karachi on a call given by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and the Ahl-i-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) against the ongoing wave of sectarian killings.
Private School Management Association has announced to close all the schools in the metropolis due to strike.
Public transport is thin on the roads while markets, businesses and schools are closed.
Incidents of rioting and gunfire were reported in Guru Mandir area of the city where some protestors burnt tyres and blocked the roads.
Some unidentified men gunned down a shopkeeper in Saddar area while two vehicles were also torched in Kharadar area.
Religious and political parties, transporters, traders and private school associations have supported the strike call. In a rare move, the Shia Ulema Council has also announced to support the strike.
Jamaat-i-Islami leader Muhammad Hussain Mehnti has appealed people and traders to make strike, being observed over non-arrest of killers of Ulema, a success.
