New Delhi: Indian police on Monday arrested a youth for attempting to rape a minor girl in Nandpur village under the limits of Gajner police station.
According to sources, the victim, an eight-year-old girl, was all alone in the house while her parents had gone to the outskirts of the village in connection with some household work on Monday afternoon.
“While the child was playing in the `verandah’ of the house, two youths barged into the house and tried to rape her. The victim screamed loudly and attracted her neighbours attention following which they immediately rushed to the spot. When they went inside the house, the accused were attempting to rape the victim. One of the accused Ajay was nabbed by the locals while the other managed to flee the spot. After severe thrashing, they handed over the youth to Gajner police.”
According to police, the accused has been arrested and remanded to custody. A case had been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused.
Police has started a search operation to arrest another culprit identified as Suiya.
Meanwhile, the girl has been admitted to the district hospital for medical examination, the report of which is awaited, he added.
