Islamabad: Pakistan’s state-run English channel, Pakistan Television (PTV) World, is set to launch on January 29 (tomorrow).
President Asif Ali Zardari will inaugurate the new channel that will air news, current affairs and entertainment programmes, Journalism Pakistan reported.
The channel was earlier set to launch earlier this month, but a long march by Minhajul Quran International forced PTV’s management to postpone the inauguration, the report said.
“It is a difficult initiative and we are aware it won’t be commercially viable, given that two private English channels [DawnNews and Express 24/7] closed down. This is a challenge in itself,” PTV Managing Director Yousuf Baig Mirza said in Karachi last month.
The two private channels had to shut down because of poor revenues and low viewership.
