Srinagar: India and Pakistan have resumed a bus service in the disputed Kashmir region near the area where militaries of both countries engaged in deadly border disputes two weeks ago.
Officials said 64 passengers from Pakistan crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir into India while 84 went in the other direction on the bus service from Poonch to Rawalakot.
“We are assessing losses the traders suffered because they could not send perishable items across on time,” AFP quoted Shant Manu, secretary for industries and commerce in Indian-administered Kashmir, as saying.
The bus service as well as trade between Indian and Pakistani controlled portions of Kashmir in Poonch was suspended on January 10 following the worst LoC violence in a decade.
Both countries accused each other of starting the violence in which three Pakistani and two Indian soldiers were killed.
The cross LoC bus service from Poonch in Indian-administered Kashmir to Rawalakot in the Pakistani administered side began in 2005 to enable members of divided families in the region to meet each other.
