Karachi: Pakistan’s Minister of State for Finance, Salim Mandviwala on Wednesday night stepped back from his early statement of withdrawing case against the factory owners of Baldia Town and said that his statement was misquoted.
Mandviwal’s statement created shocks in the political top brass of the country with Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ibad telephoning President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and conveying his strong reservations over the statement.
It is pertinent to mention here that more than 250 employees were charred to death following the eruption of fire into the Baldia Town factory, dubbed as the worst fire incident in Pakistan’s history.
Mandviwala said that he never announced that the case was withdrawn but instead he called to end the murder clause from the case.
The governor Sindh also asked the prime minister to refrain from withdrawing murder clause from the case as it would be injustice with the relatives of the victims.
The minister further stated that the case would be investigated on merit and no injustice would be done with the families of the victims.
