Islamabad: Pakistan’s Interior Ministry on Tuesday received a terror alert from security agencies that Tehrik-i-Taliban (TTP), a militant outfit, was planning to attack the long march of Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) leader Dr Tahirul Qadri, which would reach Islamabad on January 14, 2013.
According to security sources, the terror plot was revealed after security agencies trace out a call of a close aid of TTP leader Hakeem ullah Mehsud telling the plot to his aide from a landline number of Miranshah, an area in North Waziristan.
“An explosives-laden car is likely to be used by the extremist elements to attack the long march,” they said adding that suicide vests might also be used in the attack.
Earlier on Tuesday, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan refuted the claims of Federal Interior Minister of Pakistan, Rehman Malik that they have any intentions of launching an assault on the convoy of Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri.
Spokesman of the banned outfit, Ehsanullah Ehsan downrightly denied any plans to attack the planned procession despite a ‘disagreement’. “We have serious ideological differences with Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri,” he said.
Ahsanullah also differed from the minister on giving any threat to the chairman of Pakistan Awami Tehrik.
Meanwhile, Interior ministry has rejected the statement from Taliban spokesman and said that they were misguiding the PAT leader.
The ministry spokesman said that they did not believe on the fake spokesman of Taliban and their statements.
“Complete security will be provided to the participants of the long march,” he said.
