Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan has sought proposal from the law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order on the occasion of general elections in the country.
CEC Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim said that maintenance of law and order is imperative to hold transparent elections in the country.
Expressing his views during a meeting to review ‘election security plan’, the CEC said he has called for the presence of Pakistan Army personnel on the polling stations until the announcement of results, while the should also be at the police stations.
He observed that people have had reservations on the election process in the past. “It is a collective responsibility and constitutional obligation to ensure rule of law,” he said.
Fakhruddin reiterated that Pakistan Army has ensured full cooperation on the occasion of general elections in Pakistan.
The meeting was attended by secretaries defence, interior, DG Rangers, IGs FC, Islamabad and provincial chief secretaries.
