Abbottabad: Pakistani authorities have suspended three revenue officials over receiving bribe for the construction of the house of slain al-Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden.
According to media reports, a bribe of Rs 50,000 was paid to a revenue official by al-Qaeda men on the direction of Osama bin Laden.
The bribe was paid to the ‘patwari’ so that Laden could construct a three-storey building within the compound surrounded by a 14-foot boundary wall and an iron fence.
Details of the bribe emerged after Pakistani officials translated a diary that was purportedly kept by bin Laden.
According to sources, Commissioner Hazara Khalid Umerzai has suspended ‘Patwari’ Chun Zaib, Registrar Bakhtiar and ‘Gurdawar’ Haji Mohammad Saeed over their alleged role in taking bribe for the construction of the hideout.
In a letter issued from commissioner Hazara office, Assistant Commissioner Fareed Khan has been appointed as the inquiry officer of the case.
Bin Laden, 54, was killed by US commandos during a raid on the compound, located a short distance from the Pakistan Military Academy, on May 2 last year.
The compound was demolished by the Pakistan Army earlier this year. Officials found the diary along with 137,000 documents in the compound.
