Karachi: Some unidentified men on Tuesday attacked the convoy of banned outfit Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat (ASWJ) leader Aurangzeb Farooqi in Gulshan Iqbal area of Karachi, a metropolitan of Pakistan, killing his driver, gunman and four policemen.
Maulana Farooqi was injured in attack but the ASWJ spokesman Akber Saeed said that he was out of danger.
According to sources, Maulana was going to Siddiq-e-Akber Mosque near Nagan chowrangi, when he was attacked near Moti Mahal in Gulshan Iqbal area.
At least 15 attackers riding on six motorcycles and a car carried out the attack, they added.
The bodies and injured have been shifted to a local hospital in the city.
The witnesses said that the cross firing between the guards and the attackers continued for almost 15 minutes.
According to SSP Asim Qaimkhani, four policemen were killed while two attackers were also injured in the attack.
Panic has gripped the city after the incident with unidentified men torching vehicles and opening fire in different parts of the metropolitan.
Meanwhile, seven more people have been killed in the city raising the death toll to 13 during last 12 hours.
At least three people were killed in Oragi town area of the city.
