Rome: Italy’s President Giorgio Napolitano has dissolved parliament on Saturday after the Prime Minister Mario Monti resigned yesterday (Friday).
“I have just signed the decree for the dissolution of parliament,” he told reporters.
Monti’s cabinet will remain in office in a caretaker capacity until the national election which is expected to be held on February 24, 2013.
Monti resigned two months ahead of the end of his term of office, after his government lost the support of Silvio Berlusconi’s centre-right People of Freedom party, Reuters reported.
