Washington: United States (US) President Barack Obama will nominate Senator John Kerry as the country’s Secretary of the State, the White House said on Friday. Kerry will replace the incumbent Hillary Clinton.
Hillary Clinton’s term will expire in January 2012 but she had refused to perform her duties as secretary of state due to her illness.
Earlier, US Ambassador for United Nations (UN) Susan Rice was the favourite contender for the post but the controversy created by her remarks on Benghazi attack in Libya, where three US diplomats including US Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens were killed, forced her to withdraw the name for the post.
