Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhua (KPK) Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Wednesday said that militants were targeting anti-polio campaigners in revenge against the killing of slain al-Qaeda chief Osma bin Laden, who was killed by the United States Navy SEALs in Abbotabad town of Pakistan.
Earlier, Dr. Shakil Afridi, a CIA spy in Pakistan, carried out a fake polio campaign in Abbotabad to take DNA samples of the children of Osama bin Laden. Dr. Afridi was later detained and indicted by a tribal court for 33-years in prison.
Talking to media, the KPK minister said that after killing Pakistani teenage activist, Malala Yousafzai, the militants had turned their weapons against the education and health sector of the country.
“Militants wanted to destroy the economy of Pakistan,” he said adding that it was the responsibility of the government to ensure security of the polio activists in the province.
He further said that the government would not allow anyone to disable the country adding that they would made the polio campaign more successful than the previous ones.
