Islamabad: Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik, who faced huge criticism for his unique security plans, has finally managed to win public support over his steps pertaining to ban on mobile phone services during the Ashura (November) in different cities of of the countries.
Majority of Pakistanis have showed their support to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) led government’s action to block cellular services during the Ashora, a recent survey has revealed.
In the survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked “Keeping in mind the security situation, mobile networks were blocked by the government during Muharram. To what extent do you support the government’s decision to block mobile networks?” Responding to this, 33 percent strongly support government’s decision, 35 percent somewhat support it, 21 percent somewhat oppose it while 10 percent strongly oppose it. However 1 percent did not give a view.
The Poll’s findings are in line with other survey results compiled by Gilani Research Foundation, where Public Opinion has been generally supportive of current government’s decisions regarding Law and Order and Anti-Terrorism steps.
The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2632 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during December 03, 2012 – December 08, 2012.
