Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has introduced a new polling scheme that would bring the total number of polling stations to 90,000 across the country.
Under the scheme, polling schemes would be set up every two kilometres. For Balochistan, the limit would be 10 kilometres.
The number of new polling stations according to provinces would be: Punjab, 12,000; Sindh, 8,000; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 3,000, and Balochistan, 2,000.
In the country’s capital Islamabad, the ECP would set up 159 new polling stations.
The ECP said the purpose of the new scheme is to build polling stations nearer to voter’s homes to facilitate them.
Moreover in Karachi, the commission has started the process of verifying the voters’ list in Karachi on directives of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The verification would be conducted by 19,000 government employees of the Sindh government. Armed forces and FC personnel would soon join the verification process, which is due to end Jan 17.
