New Delhi: Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that he never equated Babri mosque demolition to the Mumbai attacks and the 9/11 attacks.
He said he wanted people of India to know his statements had been misunderstood.
In an interview to an Indian TV channel NDTV, Malik said Pakistan and India should look forward to a new future and learn from their troubled past.
Of visa accord signed between the two countries, he said the agreement would lead to mutual cooperation between Islamabad and New Delhi.
On a question about Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, the minister said that though Pakistani government wanted to see Saeed behind bars, the country’s courts had released him. He added that the government respected the orders of the judiciary.
Malik said Pakistan would only take action against Saeed if India provided concrete evidence against him.
Answering a question regarding Saurabh Kalia—an Indian army officer who had died while in custody of Pakistani security forces during the Kargil War—Malik said he was willing to have the case investigated.
“I only said circumstances of his death are disputed, I am asking for more information…I feel the pain of Captain Kalia’s father; I will definitely look into the matter.”
